It’s been just over a month since Bowman Chrome dropped and a good time to look back and see how this product has shaped up.
The cost of ripping this has gone up and over $600 which would lead you to believe it’s been a great buy.
But it’s probably worth taking a closer look at the hits inside the box to see how this is holding up.
If you know me, you know this is my favorite release and I’ve got a hard time not buying hobbies.
Having bought 1 or 2 more of these than I should have and seeking out Mega’s I was scratching my head wondering why these prices keep going up.
If this product were $300/$400 and the Mega’s $60 then I’d be all over this.
But they are not. They have cruised up to really high altitudes and the ROI at these prices just isn’t there.
I went back at some of the hits I pulled and how they did on eBay, and it was mostly underwhelming.
Let’s start with an Orange Auto 1st of Fabricio Blanco.
This came out of a Mega Box right when it dropped. Figured this was easily a $200 card.
But when it was sold it ended up being around $125.
It’s not a top prospect. But it’s an Orange Auto numbered to 25 and it barely covered the box it came out of.
You will open a lot of Mega’s and not come close to pulling a card like this. So when the hit finally comes and it’s still just covering cost of a box that’s not great.
Out of my hobby box, a Packfractor Auto of Joniel Hernandez was probably my biggest hit.
I’ve been looking for one of these for a while and initially thought this could be a $1k card.
I listed it at $800 knowing I’d be happy with that and if it didn’t sell happy to keep in PC.
I figured it would get bites, but none.
The biggest worry for me came on a smaller X-Fractor of Luis Gonzalez.
This isn’t a huge card, but it’s the number one chase player and it’s been sitting available on eBay for $10 for weeks.
I’ve got several other auto’s and top prospect cards collecting digital dust on eBay and it’s what has made me stop and wonder why these box prices are moving up.
If the singles don’t sell, then the boxes aren’t worth it.
I feel that with the back log at PSA and the value tier still down, we will continue to see this trend.
With value tier up, buyers would snap up cards like this with the hopes of getting a 10 on a nice card.
Grading prices being what they are, it’s removed a huge pool of buyers and left a lot of these cards available.
Not sure when this catches up with market, but eventually it has to.
So while I still love this product and would gladly rip one right now if I could, I’d say it' hasn’t held up well and is probably not a strong value buy a month later.
That can always change with a few break outs…
